STAR Becomes IPL’s Associate Sponsor

But STAR’s gain could be pain for rival network Multi Screen Media (MSM), which operates the flagship Sony Entertainment channel, besides SET Max and Sony SIX. Sony competes directly with STAR Plus, which is the market leader in the Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) space.

Associate sponsorship, for which STAR is expected to fork out around Rs 30 crore, would mean the STAR brand would be a prominent feature during telecast of the matches on two of MSM’s channels. STAR will also have a strong on-ground presence, and MSM cannot blur the competitor’s logo.

This is like Google becoming a sponsor on Apple’s App Store and Apple having to display the Android logo all over the place. This is STAR effectively “trolling” Sony.

Apple Plans to Scale Up Presence in India

The Economic Times is reporting today that Apple plans to triple its exclusive stores in the country by 2015.

In addition to increasing the number of Apple exclusive stores, called Apple Premium Resellers, that are owned and managed by 17 franchisees, the company also plans to expand its presence in multi-brand stores, they said.

While this is indeed good news if true, what I’d really like to see Apple do is introduce an Apple Store in the country. The best thing about buying an Apple product is the experience you go through when purchasing the product. And this experience is what has been seriously lacking in India.

India’s Navigation Service GAGAN To Launch In 2014

India will launch its first navigation satellite this year as a part of its Gagan (GPS aided geo augmented navigation) project, says S. Ramakrishnan, director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC), according to a report from The Hindu. Gagan is a regional satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS) jointly developed by Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

Pingdom’s New Transaction Monitoring Service

Pingdom has been a great website uptime and performance monitoring service for me to track my websites. Today, they’ve released a new type of website monitoring check — The Pingdom Transaction Monitor.

With the new check type, Pingdom customers can define multi-step actions that should be performed on their website, such as searching or filling out a form. A web browser then performs these actions at a regular interval, just like a real user, to make sure that important functions on their site are working and that they’re working fast.
