The Insane Glass Staircase at the SoHo Apple Store

Take a momentary pause and mull over the sheer manufacturing brilliance of this. The sides of the staircase at the newly revamped Apple Store at SoHo, NYC are made out of five single sheets of over 30 feet of glass laminated together.

Unbelievable.

NYT Says Apple is Readying a 7″ iPad

The company is developing a new tablet with a 7.85-inch screen that is likely to sell for significantly less than the latest $499 iPad, with its 9.7-inch display, according to several people with knowledge of the project who declined to be named discussing confidential plans. The product is expected to be announced this year.

There has been an increasing number of reports stating the same, and with Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Google’s Nexus 7 in the market, I don’t see why Apple wouldn’t want to step into the game. Sure, Apple has never been a company that introduces a product just because others have, but they’re really good at this tablet game and have heavily investing in the manufacturing process.

However, I think that this purported 7″ iPad will only be useful if one can hold it comfortably in one hand. Both the Kindle Fire and Nexus 7 have a 16:9 screen ratio and hence and taller than they are wider. The iPad on the other hand comes with a 4:3 ratio. Because of this, it ends up wider than the former to. The 7″ iPad would only be lucrative for me if I can hold it in my hand comfortably while reading it.

All Eligible Apple Products are back on EPEAT

Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering Bob Mansfield, in a letter to customers:

It’s important to know that our commitment to protecting the environment has never changed, and today it is as strong as ever. Apple makes the most environmentally responsible products in our industry. In fact, our engineering teams have worked incredibly hard over the years to make our products even more environmentally friendly, and much of our progress has come in areas not yet measured by EPEAT.

I never thought Apple would pull a complete 180 on anything.

Making of the High School Fight Scene from The Amazing Spider-man

It’s incredible where technology has reached today. I had no idea the entire scene was CGI.

Betaworks Buys Digg for $500,000

Digg confirmed Thursday it sold its brand, website and technology to Betaworks. The price is a pittance for a company that raised $45 million from prominent investors including Facebook investor Greylock Partners, LinkedIn Inc. founder Reid Hoffman, and venture capitalist Marc Andreessen.

This is really a sad end to Digg.com. I was a regular visitor to the site before the launch of the “v4” redesign and it all went downhill from there. I’m glad I discovered Reddit.
