Over on SharpShutter.co, I posted my review of the WD My Passport Wireless Pro — a stellar portable storage device from Western Digital.

I’ll go ahead and say it. The WD My Passport Wireless Pro Hard Disk Drive is not just an essential tool to carry around for photographers and cinematographers, it is also one of the best backup and storage options out there to have in your toolkit today. WD has knocked it out of the park with this product and having spent about a month reviewing this product, I can confidently say this is by far my favorite WD product ever.

Western Digital Officially Closes SanDisk Acquisition

Western Digital has now officially purchased flash memory manufacturer SanDisk after regulator approval was passed earlier this week. The agreement between the two storage companies was originally announced last October in a deal worth nearly $19 billion.

My favorite hard drive company acquires my favorite solid state company.

Western Digital Acquires SanDisk for $19 Billion

The deal values SanDisk at $86.50 a share, which is a 15% premium on the previous day’s closing price, giving the company a value of $15.4 billion. SanDisk is currently up 4.78% in pre-market trading.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you already know how much I love Western Digital’s products. On one hand, all my computer storage has been handled reliably by Western Digital while on the other hand, all my camera storage has been handled reliably by SanDisk. I’m excited to see both these companies come together.

WD My Passport Pro Review — Thunderbolt Powered RAID Storage

WD My Passport Pro

For as long as I can remember, Western Digital (WD) has been my favorite storage companies. They’ve long been making phenomenal hard disk drives and I’ve personally owned several of their products since 2003. I presently own four external drives to house all kinds of data and to power my backup and I couldn’t be happier with their performance, compared to the drives from a couple of other companies that I’ve tried in the past, one of which failed on me in just six months. That’s why I’ve only recommended WD drives (or Hitachi) to my friends & peers whenever I’ve been asked about one.

A few weeks ago, WD India was kind enough to send me a review unit of the My Passport Pro. I have a 13” MacBook Air with a mere 128GB of storage and this drive has been a near perfect storage extension for me over the last few weeks.
